About North Atlantic

North Atlantic Publishing Systems is know for innovation. The company has developed software to solve business problems for publishers and translators in workflow management, editorial systems integration, web site development, and cross-media content preparation.

History: NAPS has an 18-year history of providing customized solutions for high-end publishers. At MacWorld Boston in 1989, NAPS introduced its first product, an XTension to QuarkXPress 2.0 called CopyFlow. This XTension enables a layout editor to rapidly assemble and reassemble pages by automating the batch import and batch export of text, and the batch import of art. CopyFlow is the basis for several subsequent NAPS products, including the HNJ Engine series, and is still widely sold and used today. CopyFlow Gold has been ported to InDesign and recently re-written for QuarkXPress 7

Our philosophy is to provide custom publishing solutions from standard components. Our development focus is in the disciplines of intranet publishing systems, editorial workflow management, pagination, translation and text composition.

Projects: NAPS built the first desktop workflow system used at Business Week magazine. That system managed the workflow of the magazine's pages every week for more than two years. NAPS worked with EDS for two years to create a composition system for The Wall Street Journal. NAPS was a pioneer in web-based composition and built one of the first internet web sites to show personalized, web composed proofs of business stationery for New England Business Service (NEBS).

North Atlantic Publishing's offices are located outside Boston in Massachusetts. The company is privately held.
